Craie Text
Text editor
The light editor, for code and for words.
Craie Text opens in an instant and never loses anything: tabs (on top, or in a panel), Sublime Text’s shortcuts, one-key formatting, a calm page to write on, and an assistant that changes nothing without your review.
Code
The moves your fingers already know.
Sublime Text’s shortcuts
⌘D, multiple cursors, duplicate or move a line, command palette (⇧⌘P), go to file (⌘P), reopen the closed tab (⇧⌘T).
Format in one keystroke
⌘I formats JSON, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, Markdown and YAML, offline; an untitled buffer’s language is guessed.
Tabs, projects, windows
Tabs along the top, or in a side panel like a browser’s vertical tabs; several projects and windows, two files side by side, search across the project.
Write
A page, not a terminal.
Writing layout
Notes, .txt files and Markdown are written on a page: one column, spell-check, a word count, the document’s outline (⌘R), focus mode.
French typography
Guillemets « » and no-break spaces, set as you type.
Reading, and the preview
The laid-out reading view, or the preview next to the text (⌥⌘P), KaTeX formulas included, offline.
Tasks and reminders
- [ ] ticks with a click; type @ in a task, pick a day, and Craie writes the date and reminds you on time, as long as it is open.
Nothing gets lost
Never a “Save changes?”.
Drafts come back
An unsaved tab comes back as it was after a restart.
A file’s versions
A version at each save, named milestones, the file’s timeline: compare, and take back what you need.
Encodings
UTF-16 and Windows-1252 open like UTF-8, and each file is saved back in its own encoding.
Dictation
Click the mic and the words appear at the cursor as you talk: Apple’s recogniser, Whisper offline inside the app, or the system’s dictation, as in Ardoise DB.
The assistant
An assistant that reviews with you.
Off by default. Once on, it proposes and you review: every change arrives as a diff, edit by edit.
⌘K: edit with AI
An instruction on the selection or the file: fix, rephrase, shorten, translate. ⌘↩ accepts, ⌘⌫ rejects.
⌘L: the conversation
About the file or the selection, with what will be sent shown first; @ to attach another file.
Agent mode
The assistant explores the project on its own (list, search, read) and only proposes.
Careful with secrets
A sensitive file (.env, keys) asks for your consent before it is sent; text that is too long is refused, never cut.
Models you can use
- Claude, with your API key
- Ollama and LM Studio, on your computer
- Apple’s on-device model
- Claude Code, with your plan (experimental)
Not in this first version: terminal, plugins, language servers, and nothing of git that writes (commits, branches, pushing): Craie only reads a file’s git timeline. It stays a light editor.
Privacy
What it sends, and to whom
Everything that leaves the app, and nothing else.

- The download of a Whisper model; nothing about you or your files
- On your click, once

- No one else
- No telemetry, no account, no background updates
- Never
